The MT3500T is a 3-pole Series C thermal-magnetic trip unit for the HMDL and MDL type circuit breakers manufactured by Eaton. Its continuous current rating is 500 Amps and it is suitable for various frames. Note that this trip unit is only a part of a complete circuit breaker that consists of a frame, terminals, a circuit breaker, and other components. It performs the role of automatically tripping the breaker by relying on its thermal elements that monitor and react to the heat produced by overloads, high currents, or short circuits. The MT3500T features status indicators that are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) as well as “cause of trip” LEDs to help the users quickly identify and resolve the faults that may occur during operation. Its thermal-magnetic elements are adjustable and they continually carry currents that are equal to the amperage ratings on its nameplate.
The thermal element trips the MT3500T circuit breaker within 2 hours for overload conditions that are up to 135% of the usual load capacity of the MT3500T circuit breaker, but higher overload conditions take a shorter time to cause a trip. It features adjustable magnetic trip units on each pole and it supports both AC and DC applications. It takes about 5 minutes for the thermal element of the MT3500T thermal-magnetic circuit breaker to cool down after successive fault current-induced tripping. This gives the operator just enough time to identify the cause of the fault and to fix it before turning the breaker back on to resume operation. This trip unit is calibrated at 40 degrees Celsius, and at 50 to 60 Hertz (without derating) by default.
Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) are often difficult to read. Here are some commonly mistaken versions for the MT3700T:
