About the KD4400

The KD4400 is a 4-pole complete circuit breaker manufactured by Cutler-Hammer/Westinghouse, a division of the Eaton Company. The breaker belongs to the Eaton Series C line of molded case circuit breakers with an interchangeable trip unit. The KD4400 measures 5.5 inches in width, 5.5 inches in height, and 4.1 inches in length. The circuit breaker weighs 11.5 pounds. For the current rating, the KD4400 has a rated maximum continuous current of 400 Amps at a maximum surrounding temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. With a K-frame type, the KD4400 is available as a factory-sealed unit and as a user-assembled unit. By default, the circuit breaker is supplied for user assembling, unless otherwise specified. The Eaton/Cutler-Hammer/Westinghouse KD4400 is UL listed and it has line and load aluminum terminals.

The KD4400 accommodates a shunt trip with a voltage rating of between 208 and 380 Volts AC or between 110 and 127 Volts DC on the same side with a left pigtail shunt. The circuit breaker features a fixed magnetic fixed thermal trip unit type that supports instantaneous trip functions. The KD4400 has a rated maximum voltage of 600 Volts AC and one of 250 Volts DC when protecting AC and DC circuits, respectively. The KD4400 complete molded case circuit breaker accommodates a feed-thru connection. Under the NEMA standards, the KD4400 circuit breaker has its interrupt rating capped at 65 kAIC at 240 Volts AC, 25 kAIC at 600 Volts AC, and 35 kAIC at 480 Volts AC. When a factory-sealed KD4400 is employed to protect a system against overloads and short circuits, it should be frequently monitored for malfunctions, including checking for a clogged/non-tripping unit.
