The HFD4040 is a 600 Volts AC 3-phase complete molded case circuit breaker. The breaker features a non-replaceable trip unit that employs a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip mechanism to open the circuit in a timely manner in the case of an overload whether it is a current or thermal overload. The HFD4040, as with other molded case circuit breakers with this type of a tripping mechanism, is used in environments where the shortest possible time is needed to limit short-circuit current. The HFD4040 has 4 poles and a continuous current rating of 40 Amps calibrated at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.
The HFD4040 has lug terminals on the load side. The breaker is the HFD Type, it has an F frame size, and it is among the highly reliable Series C line of circuit breakers from Eaton. Circuit breakers in this series and with this frame type are HACR rated and they are ideal for reverse feed use. Under the UL 489 and IEC 157-1 standards, the HFD4040 has an interrupting rating of 65 kAIC at 480 Volts AC at a frequency of between 50 and 60 Hertz. The circuit breaker has a width of 5.5 inches, a height of 6.0 inches, and a depth of 3.38 inches. When used to protect a DC circuit, the HFD4040 should not be used at a voltage of more than 250 Volts DC. The HFD4040 is approved by the Underwriters Laboratories and it can be used in residential applications. The circuit breaker is meant to be used at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius unless special calibrations have been done for other temperature levels.
