The Cutler-Hammer FDC2070 is a circuit breaker that belongs to Series C of the Cutler-Hammer molded circuit breakers, specifically to the Frame FD branch of the series. This circuit breaker has been designed and manufactured by Cutler-Hammer and its main function is to provide high levels of protection to circuits against abnormal line transients that could affect a whole electrical system. The Cutler-Hammer FDC2070 circuit breaker operates at a maximum voltage of 600 Volts AC and 250 Volts DC. It has a maximum continuous ampere rating of 70 Amps when operating at up to 40 degrees Celsius. The Cutler-Hammer FDC2070 circuit breaker provides 2 poles, non-interchangeable trip units, and it also has terminals on the load end only. It provides a double mechanism that works with temperature and magnets and it consists of detecting parameters and starts a tripping action when a fault has been detected.
The recommended ambient temperature for the Cutler-Hammer FDC2070 circuit breaker is 40 degrees Celsius for its 100% capacity in 3-phase applications. If the operating temperature is higher than 40 degrees Celsius or the circuit breaker is used within an enclosure, it must be derated. This derating is required due to slow heat dissipation. The Cutler-Hammer FDC2070 circuit breaker is rated for a full fault current and it can be used in a series to provide a higher level of protection to the system. In some cases, due to its design, it can start limiting the current to a certain degree. This circuit breaker can be used in harsh mining environments and it complies with the marine specifications. For mining applications, circuit breakers with temperature ratings of 50 degrees Celsius must be provided.
