The FD3040 is a 3-pole circuit breaker with a molded case from Eaton. The current rating for the FD3040 is 40 Amperes while the voltage rating is 600 Volts AC or 250 Volts DC. For the AC interrupt, the FD3040 has 18 kAIC at 600 Volts AC and 65 kAIC at 240 Volts AC. Unlike the ED2150, the FD3040 features only load terminals. The tripping mechanism for this particular circuit breaker uses a fixed thermal-magnetic trip. The FD3040 is a member of the FD family in the series C category of circuit breakers with a NEMA F-frame type.
The FD3040 molded case 3 pole Cutler Hammer circuit breaker is panel mountable using bolts and operates with a frequency (voltage) ranging from 50 to 60 Hertz. Being a 3-pole circuit breaker, it has a larger casing measuring 5 inches by 5 inches by 7.5 inches. With an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing, the FD3040 does not accommodate field installations of internal components. Additionally, the FD3040 provides screwed terminals and is RoHS compliant. Since the FD3040 has a molded case, the tripping arm cannot be replaced. If faults are found with the circuit breaker (including non-tripping mechanism and extreme discoloration, etc), it should be replaced. The FD3040 Cutler-Hammer molded circuit breaker, as with other circuit breakers in the same series and frame type (C, F) and other molded case circuit breakers are ideal to be used to open and close a circuitry by non-automatic means or automatically using a predetermined overload of current thus protecting devices against overloads.
Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) are often difficult to read. Here are some commonly mistaken versions for the FD3040:
