The FD2040 is a Series C complete molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) manufactured by Cutler-Hammer (a division of the Eaton Corporation). It has a high-speed "blow open" action feature that is effective in industrial automation systems with up to 40 Amps of current. This 2-pole device can be connected to 600 Volts AC systems or to 250 Volts DC systems. The trip unit represents the brain of any MCCB. The trip unit installed inside of the FD2040 is a Digitrip RMS 310+ unit. It is a highly efficient operating mechanism that reacts in the event of a short circuit or a current overload. This mechanism trips almost instantly. The Eaton FD2040 is an FD Type MCCB with the F frame housing. This molded case housing is made of insulating materials and it encompasses current-carrying parts, mechanisms, and trip devices that are used to keep the equipment safe from overcurrents.
This Eaton Cutler-Hammer MCCB is a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip type. Users cannot change its tripping values. It is suitable for reverse feed use. The FD2040 MCCB has dimensions of 6.00 inches (152 millimeters) x 3.38 inches (86 millimeters) x 2.75 inches (70 millimeters). It can be used in electrical cabinets with air temperatures between -20 and 70 degrees Celsius (-4 and 158 degrees Fahrenheit). Note that the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker is calibrated at 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and if the operating temperature is higher than this, the current rating is reduced. At lower temperatures, users might consider applying special lubrication to the mechanical parts of the trip unit to increase efficiency.
Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) are often difficult to read. Here are some commonly mistaken versions for the FD2040:
