The Eaton Cutler-Hammer CTF225 is an External Neutral Current Transformer (ENCT) with a current rating of 225 Amps. This sensor is built in systems to measure the neutral current. This is an additional device that is optionally connected to the C Series F Frame product line of molded case circuit breakers with 3 poles and 225 Amps rated current. The mounting location of the transformer is external. The information of the amount of current flowing through a neutral conductor is scaled to a lower value by means of current transforming. This lower current value is then processed by a microcontroller installed inside of an electronic trip unit which can trip the circuit breaker. Electronic trip units from the C Series that can process data from the CTF225 are 210+ and 310+ type electronic trip units.
For residual ground fault sensing, it is important to note that if the system neutral transformer is grounded and if there are loads applied between the phase and neutral transformers, then the neutral current transformer device like the CTF225 can be used to measure this kind of load in the system. Turn off any existing power supply to the MCCB and external neutral current transformer before working on or inside equipment. To install the sensor, the users need to insert it in the neutral line (2 connection points to 2 bigger screws) and make connections of output terminals (2 smaller screws) to the MCCBs trip unit. Route the wires according to the application requirements. After the installation of the CTF225, primary testing should be made to ensure that all the trip system components are working properly.
Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) are often difficult to read. Here are some commonly mistaken versions for the CTF225:
