The Eaton Cutler-Hammer CTF080 is an external neutral sensor that can be integrated into the C Series and F Frame product line of molded case circuit breakers. Generally, it is an accessory for the 210+ and 310+ electronic trip units manufactured by Eaton. This device is a current transformer that is connected to a neutral wire. It must be installed when a circuit breaker with an electronic trip unit has a ground-fault detection option (trip or alarm). The CTF80 is applicable to 4-wire systems. It can sense a current through a neutral wire that is connected with the phase current to be able to produce accurate current sensing.
The CTF80 is sold separately from the Eaton Cutler-Hammer electronic circuit breakers. Its current rating is limited to devices that work with 80 Amps of current and have the capability to monitor phase currents. This neutral current transformer expends that capability to neutral or ground current monitoring. There is an option for mounting the digital display to the molded case circuit breaker and for displaying the values measured by the CTF080 neutral current transformer. This sensor has 2 screws to connect the neutral conductor wire. From 2 smaller screws, a transformed current value is transferred to the control system of the electronic trip unit which can trip the MCCB when the alarm current value is exceeded. One of the side effects of this sensor is also the protection of the neutral conductor and the prevention of insulation faults. Before the users order this sensor, they need to make sure that its rating is compatible with the current rating of the circuit breaker.
Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) are often difficult to read. Here are some commonly mistaken versions for the CTF080:
